TPIE – answers to questions
|January 16, 2009||Posted by Melissa under FAPC, News|
Thank you so much for the questions!! TPIE is a trade show at which people who grow plants set up booths to display their products. There are other types of exhibitors as well – government agencies, insurance companies, allied businesses (suppliers of everything from pots and pot covers to fertilizers to boxes) – all come to showcase the elements that go into getting plants from seed to final destination.
We’ve taken some great pictures, some of which Yolanda already posted, so we’ll be updating those today and tomorrow.
I’ve not run across any edible plants so far, but there are bunch of orchid growers, so I’ll ask if they are food safe. We have seen tropical fruit trees, though, and they even have a cinnamon tree! There may be some herbs so I’ll check on that.
One of the great things about shows like these is that you see old friends and people with whom you’ve struck up friendships over the years at various shows. Yesterday we got to visit with FAPC members Sylvia Gordon (see Yolanda’s post), as well as Marc & Kiki Ellenby of LNB Groves and LNB Farms Bamboo Fields, and Louis Morehead of The Florida Key Lime Pie Company and Tiki Lui Nursery.
As people come by our booth, we tell them about the benefits of joining FAPC and encourage our members to apply for the logo reimbursement program (which ends on March 31.) Most of the exhibitors we’ve talked to have been getting some good business at the show. One of the vendors next to us wants to join FAPC!!
Today we also have a treat – Larson with our Bureau of Agricultural Dealer’s Licenses is here to answer questions that we get from the growers. It is great to have him here!
