I confess, I’m not the most creative person to work in Marketing. People naturally think – oh you work in marketing, you must be so creative! Sure, I can come up with ideas but more often than I’d like, my brain is just blank, especially when under pressure to get an ad done. I can spend hours brainstorming and I get nothing. It’s like writer’s block for marketing. That’s when I have to find other ways to get inspired. One way I do that is looking at print ads, commercials, collateral materials that other companies and advertising agencies have done. Where do I find those at? Honestly – blogs.
Each day I try to read a handful of advertising/marketing blogs that show the latest ads and commercials that are out. That’s where I find a lot of my inspiration. These blogs really give me ideas and get the wheels turning in my head of things to do for us. Another added bonus of these blogs is a few of them discuss recent trends and news in advertising. That’s almost just as important to me, because working in marketing, I believe it’s very important to know what’s happening in the industry you work in.
So whether you work in marketing & advertising, own your own business (like our FAPC members) or are just interested in the industry itself, I encourage you to check out some of these blogs and be inspired by what you see.
Advertising Age website – Hands down one of the best collective resources for everything advertising & marketing.
Advertising Age Blog – This is like the Advertising Age website, but with a more humorous, personal touch.
Ads of the World – One the most comprehensive collections of all the ads out right now, across the world. Such neat ideas!
Adverblog – More advertising – I just really like this site.
Creativity Online – Pure creative bliss.
