Make it your way!

I am someone who, as a general rule, never follows recipes. I believe they are more of a guideline than anything else. Of course I don’t expect everyone to have the same level of kitchen confidence as I do. Confidence takes time and effort!
OK so, recipes are like rules…they are made to be broken! For instance, if you had a recipe that you have had a craving for and come to find out not all the ingredients are in season, what do you then do? What if your favorite store doesn’t carry everything on your list? What if you don’t have all the proper cooking utensils the recipe calls for? This is not a worst case scenario, in fact rarely do we have the exact items necessary to follow any given recipe to the T.
My advice is to make it your own. However, there are some rules that should not be broken. When it comes to baking and ratios, it is important to follow the formula as it is stated. Other items in recipes can be substituted or omitted without any problems. For instance, say the recipe calls for a specific kind of vegetable that you don’t like, you should replace it with a similar vegetable that you do like. This recipe philosophy can be applied to other ingredients as well.
Everyone has different taste buds and that is part of what makes us unique! So have fun in the kitchen and turn those recipes into your own creations!

Great guidelines to go by!
I try to make recipes my own when I cook, but sometimes it’s not such a good turn out!
