Are you feeling it? The urge to eat higher-calorie, less nutritious and cheaper meals. According to an article in last Sunday’s USA Weekend, Americans, feeling the stress of tough economic times, are eating fast food more often for the immediate gratification. Although the article did not say this, I would imagine we are buying cheaper, less nutritious food at the grocery store.
The article’s tip was to go to your casual dining restaurant and split entrees to conserve cash and calories. This might work if you are a couple. If you have hungry teenagers to feed , not gonna fly. So my tip would be go to the grocery store, buy those same restaurant type foods and prepare them at home. A little pre-planning can help with the immediate gratification thing. Visit The Florida Chef and Fresh from Florida Kids for other ideas. Another thought, talk to your kids. You might be surprised what meal suggestions they can offer. Feel free to ignore the cupcake and soda suggestion.
