Tell Mom to Eat Her Veggies

A recent study by researchers from Sahlgrenska University in Sweden suggests that women who eat vegetables every day while pregnant are less likely to have children whose blood produced the antibodies indicative of Type I diabetes development. I was a bit hesitant to share this information since the study is not conclusive. The researchers admit more studies need to be conducted before they can confirm anything definitive. But they can’t say for sure that it is not the vegetables causing the protective link because other factors like the mother’s standard of education or other measured dietary factors do not seem to explain the link.
Childhood obesity and diabetes are growing at an alarming rate in Florida and the U.S. Our program Fresh from Florida Kids is designed to help parents start their babies eating fresh fruits and vegetables from their first taste of solid food and to continue developing healthy habits through the toddler stage. If the suggestion of eating vegetables daily would help moms eliminate the possibility of diabetes in their child then I say take that suggestion.
