Wine for People Who Don’t Drink Wine (and those who do)

I decided to go on a road trip to Panama City, Florida this past Memorial Day weekend and on my way I remembered there was an outlet that sold the delicious Florida grapefruit wine I tasted a few years ago. I had to make sure to purchase a bottle before I left town. It was 10 ‘til 5:00, and I was trying to get to Panama City Beach Winery before they closed. Places in Panama City Beach are short-distanced, but takes time to get anywhere because of the slow traffic. I called the winery to let them know I was on my way and they were kind enough to wait for me.
Thank goodness they did. As I walked into the wide open bar, I was welcomed by Larry and Kay Honeycutt, who graciously invited me to taste four of the many unique varieties of tropical, citrus, vegetable and berry wines available. If you’ve never experienced it before, a Florida fruit-wine tasting is a totally different experience; very refreshing and delightful! I bought 5 different bottles that day out of pure excitement to take home and share with family and friends.
“We cater to non-wine drinkers. Our customers say they finally try wines that taste good and that they don’t need to learn how to taste wine.” Kay Honeycutt told me about Larry’s excitement about his winery’s reviews on Trip Advisor. “I wasn’t aware of Trip Advisor before, and I’ve gotten reviews from all over the U.S., Alaska, London and even Russia,” says Larry.
If you don’t understand yet what’s all the buzz about Panama City Beach Winery is, it’s because they carry the great wine selections of the Florida Orange Groves Winery. If the Orange Coffee Midnight Sun, Tomato Hot Sun, Chocolate Cocoa Beach or Carrot 40 Karat wines doesn’t spark your curiosity, maybe the subtle notes of their five star Sangria, Passion Fruit or Key Lime wines will.

Chicken in Citrus Sauce
½ c. water ¾ c. low sodium chicken broth
2 T. ½ -inch julienne cut orange rind 1 tsp. margarine
1 T. 1/2-inch julienne cut lime rind 1 tsp. sugar
¾ c. Orange Sunshine Wine ¼ tsp. salt
2 T. Florida Grapefruit Wine ¼ tsp. pepper
2 tsp. Key Limen Wine 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
¼ c. Black Gold Blackberry Wine 8 skinless chicken thighs or drumsticks
1 T. white vinegar ½ tsp. cornstarch
Combine water, orange rind, lemon rind, lime rind and Orange Sunshine wine in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Drain, reserving citrus rind. Combine rind, Florida Grapefruit wine, lemon juice, Key Limen wine, chicken broth, Black Gold Blackberry wine and sugar in a bowl; stir well and set aside. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the chicken. Heat the margarine in a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat until hot. Add the chicken and cook 3 minutes on each side. Add juice mixture; cover, reduce, heat and simmer 35 minutes. Remove chicken from skillet with thongs or a slotted spoon; set aside and keep warm. Combine vinegar and cornstarch; stir well. Add cornstarch mixture to wine mixture in skillet. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes or until thickened slightly reduced, stirring constantly. Spoon sauce over chicken. Serves 4.
