Florida is King Again!

Our staff received some excellent news this morning (the kind that makes Mondays not so bad)… Chef Dean Max, who represented Florida in the Great American Seafood Cook-Off this weekend, was crowned the King of American Seafood! Chef Max’s winning recipe was Sebastian Inlet Clams BBLT (bacon, basil, lettuce and tomato).
Between his amazing culinary skills and the fresh Florida seafood, it’s no surprise that Chef Max won. He is currently serving as Executive Chef of 3030 Ocean, located on Fort Lauderdale beach at the beautiful Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. You can find his biography and a list of the numerous awards he has won here. We are proud to have him as a Florida chef!
The Cook-Off is presented annually by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board and is held in New Orleans. There were 14 contenders that each prepared a seafood domestic-seafood dish reflecting cuisine of their home state. Now in its seventh year, the Great American Seafood Cook-Off has become the most prestigious culinary seafood competition and has featured many rising stars and celebrity chefs over the years. The event emphasizes the importance of cooking with domestic seafood and encourages the use of products from sustainable fisheries.
Our own Chef Justin was on site as a judge. If you keep up with him, then you know that he brought home the title in 2006 for Florida when he and Chef Joshua Butler participated in the Cook-Off. We are thrilled to have Florida holding the title once more!
