Back in September, we participated, for the first time, at the annual three day Family, Fun and Fitness Expo. The event was held at Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center, Orlando.
The organized event was sponsored and hosted by popular radio talk show host Tom Joyner, which attracts thousands of African American consumers. According to the American Obesity Association, African Americans consume less than half the amount of fruits and vegetables than Caucasians. By participating at the event, we were able to effectively promote awareness and encourage consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and explain why good nutrition and eating habits play a fundamental role in healthy living. Our display theme was “Paint your Plate”-a new way to think about food. Each plate display represented a color and listed the name of foods associated with the color and the color’s health benefits. Consumers were also allowed to sample fresh fruits and fresh tangerine juice (donated by FAPC member Blue Lake Citrus).
An unhealthy diet can lead to many chronic diseases and conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer. By simply making smarter, healthier choices, you can beat these risks.
