Okra is a vegetable that we don’t always think of in the terms of royalty, but many of the world’s most beautiful women in history like Cleopatra of Egypt and Yang Guifei of China loved to eat it. Who wouldn’t want to know one of the secrets these women used to stay beautiful? Okra has even been used as a substitute for the coffee bean when there were shortages. So what is in okra that makes it is good for you?
Okra is a great source of iron and calcium, plus vitamins A and C. Okra contains fat, starch, thiamine and riboflavin. The fiber in okra will help regulate a person’s blood sugar. Okra feeds the “good bacteria” acting as probiotics. This fiber also helps to prevent constipation. There are components in okra that help to neutralize acids and create an alkaline environment in the body. Some physical ailments that okra helps to relieve are depression, exhaustion, sore throat, lung inflammation, asthma and irritable bowel syndrome. Apparently this veggie comes packed with some wonderful health benefits.
On the side of vanity, okra helps protect from pimples which are any girl’s nemesis. Okra is a great source for maintaining beautiful smooth skin. No wonder some of the most beautiful women in the world have enjoyed eating it. Another big benefit to okra is that it protects against transfats. What else could a girl ask for? It’s definitely a super food in my book, especially as I have an increased desire to age gracefully in my 30s. This will definitely be a food that I can add into my diet in order to give me a leg up on having beautiful skin.
