Florida Tropical Fish Bring Happiness

The last time I had a pet, it was my Cocker Spaniel, back in 1993. It took about 10 years before I would even consider having another pet, but I wasn’t ready to commit…until now.
I have a new betta fish. He’s so pretty!! Even though he is a fish and not super cuddly, I am surprised at how happy he makes me. My friends laugh at me for saying this, but he’s got quite a personality for a little fish, swimming up to me when I get close to the bowl.
The point of writing about him, though, is to mention that Florida’s aquaculture industry is one of the largest in the country, with tropical fish comprising 52 percent of Florida aquaculture sales totals. In 2007 tropical fish sales for the country were more than $1.4 billion; Florida’s contribution to that was about $32 million.
Some friends of mine have impressive tropical fish displays, and they are lovely to watch. While I’m not quite ready for that, I am really enjoying having a small bowl with my betta, Will.
To find out more about the tropical fish industry and producers, check out the Florida Tropical Fish Farms Association website at http://ftffa.com. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance pet, why not try a Florida tropical fish? I hope that it brings you as much happiness as my little fish has brought me.
