Profile or Page?

We haven’t talked about social media lately, but this blog post from RB Oppenheim Associates in Tallahassee made several excellent points that I think our members would find helpful. I know we have many tech-savvy FAPC members, but also have some that are still new to social media and the online world in general. The entry from the integrated marketing communications firm was about Facebook profiles vs. Facebook pages and why the latter is much better for businesses to use. They kicked off the article with a true-life example of a small business owner getting his account removed for violating Facebook’s Terms of Service, which state that organizations must be using a Facebook “page” rather than a profile.
I’ve seen numerous companies make this mistake, and it is a hard one to even want to fix if you have built your “fan base” up to good numbers. However, you are definitely missing out on important and relevant features if you are not utilizing a Facebook page.
Please check out their blog post, as they go into great detail on the advantages of Facebook pages to organizations. And keep an eye out for some social media posts from us this summer, including an introduction to “tweet ups” and a collection of FAPC members on social media!
