6th Annual Bowls of Hope
| January 23, 2012 | Posted by Sarah under Events |

This Wednesday, January 25, we will be participating in the sixth annual Bowls of Hope event at the Capitol. America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend puts on the event every year to create awareness of the issue of hunger that many of Florida’s residents and children are facing.
The Department coordinates the Food Recovery Program, which is an effort between Florida farmers, wholesalers, retailers, community action agencies and other food relief agencies to get surplus or unmarketable food to those in need. When foods or produce are rejected at the retail and wholesale levels, the Food Recovery Program is an excellent alternative to dumping at the local landfill. For more information on this program, read here.
Please stop by the Capitol Courtyard between 11 and 2 on Wednesday to learn more about Second Harvest’s efforts and the need for food donations. Second Harvest will be passing out free bowls of soup and we will be handing out free produce!
