Family Farm Provides Weekly Produce

Earlier this month, I was given an opportunity to participate in the 2012 Florida Postharvest Horticulture Tour, hosted by the University of Florida. The weeklong tour allowed the group to observe harvesting, packing and cooling operations. During the tour, the group visited several farms that are members of the Fresh from Florida program. Borek’s Farm located in Homestead, FL was one of the many farms visited. Although the farm is small and family owned, Teena and son Michael Borek provides fresh produce weekly to 300 families. The weekly boxes include enough produce to feed a family of four people. A fresh produce box includes a variety of fresh herbs, squash, beets, leeks, carrots, radishes, kale, cucumbers, broccoli, heirloom tomatoes, leafy lettuces, and tasty fresh arugula.
