The Florida Key Lime Pie Company: New Retail Store

Dubbed as one of the Sunshine State’s newest attractions, The Florida Key Lime Pie Company’s new retail store located in Historic Cocoa Village was designed and built with an inspiration and influence from the Florida Keys with a limey sort of twist of Tommy Bahama thrown into the mix. The exterior of the building is that of a soft yellow lap siding complimented by kelly green Bahamian style shutters, and is architecturally enhanced with its front porch railings which are adorned with custom built pressure-treated bar tops skirted with half lime segments – all of which are shadowed by beautiful multi-colored flowering hanging baskets.
The Grounds and Landscape
The store’s grounds have three unique white sand beaches, one of which has been sculpted in the shape of a footprint. All three beaches are furnished with colorful island-style furniture and umbrellas for customers’ dining, lounging and relaxation enjoyment. The landscape design is equivalent to that of a prized botanical garden, and showcases a multitude of different varieties of beautiful and colorful Crotons along with spectacular Bougainvillea, Cordylines, Hibiscus, Ixora and palm tree species.
Authentic Tiki Bars and Unique Events
Using the description of being exquisite and unique is an understatement when describing both the downstairs and upstairs tiki bars, which serve more than 60 tropical fruit wines from three different Florida wineries. Customers can also order more than a dozen different handcrafted Florida-inspired beers. The upper and lower decks of the tiki bars are connected via a galvanized metal spiral staircase and are ADA compliant with a custom designed personal lift system. The tiki bars serve as the focal point for the company’s weekly and special events as well as regularly scheduled live musical entertainment.
Island Style Eats
Caribbean island-style meals are prepared by Chef Trevor of Trevor’s Blue Toucan and are served Tuesday through Sunday on the deck of the lower tiki bar from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
More Than Just Key Lime Pie
The store features several different versions of their deliciously famous Key lime pie. Individual servings in their signature Key Lime Pie in a Cup are available with both a regular and chocolate graham cracker crust. Other selections include Key lime pie by the slice or served in a coconut, and the company’s newest creation of a Sweet Heat BBQ Key Lime Pie.
For the true Key lime pie lover, whole pies are available and come in 9” homestyle market pie, 9” restaurant style deep dish, and 10” traditional box pie. The company offers their jars of “Daddy Batter” and “Baby Batter” for those who wish to make their own pies or just eat it straight out of the jar like ice cream. Additionally, the store offers its famous “Mushies” collection, where they take key lime pie and/or tropical cheesecakes and mush them into a jar where you may eat them like ice cream as well.
The company offers several incredibly delicious tropical cheesecakes that will leave you with a memorable tasting experience. Some of the flavors include their Island Mango and Tropical Guava, as well as a combination of the two in a layered cheesecake in the Guavango. Other tasty options include Caribbean Chocolate Marble, Chocolate Fudge, Flan, Lemon-illa and Vanilla Bean. The company’s newest cheesecake flavor creations include Banana, Pina Colada, Thai Basil Black Pepper and Smokey Chipotle Sour.
When entering the store there is a feeling of walking on or flying above the tropical greenish waters of the Caribbean or the Florida Keys. This is enhanced by the Key West/Tommy Bahama-style décor. Guest will have the chance to gaze upon the selection of Key lime goodies like chocolates, coolers, cupcake mixes, ice tea, lemonade mix, margarita mix, melonade, mojito mix, and seasonings. The store also offers more than 500 different hot sauces, barbecue sauces, grilling sauces, and marinades, and are complimented with amaretto, Jamieson Whiskey and Mount Gay Rum-soaked hand rolled cigars. There are shelves displaying an abundant assortment of fresh locally made salsas, hot nuts, spicy popcorn and Tortuga Rum Cakes. The company’s specialty snack item is locally made “Gator Dip,” which is made exclusively from Alligator “rib meat” and has a slight smokey flavor and light, spicy finish.
Upon entering the store, you are greeted and treated as though you are a tourist visiting an enchanted island and given a guided tour. First, you are given a free sample of the company’s key lime pie, the recipe for which is so secret that it is kept in a bank vault (the building was a former bank so that is a true story!) After your free sample, the opening portion of your tour consists of a show and tell of the company’s many different versions of their deliciously tasty key lime pies, tropical cheesecakes and other specialty gourmet desserts with a brief description of the company’s history. The tour continues with an explanation of the locally made foods and beverages it carries, as well as its extensive collection of more than 100 different books about Florida.
The next portion of the tour is quite educational and informative as you are led through the company’s wine room and given an explanation of the three different tropical fruit wineries represented and how each winery has a different method of production and diverse flavor. The closing portion of the tour provides each visitor the opportunity to observe firsthand how the company produces some of its products. Visitors are then invited to stroll the beautifully landscaped grounds and enjoy the company’s three different white sand beaches and authentic Seminole Indian tiki bars.
