Christmas Trees from Florida…Really!

When I was a little girl, I remember a magical Christmas when I went with my uncle to cut the family’s Christmas tree during a visit to Tennessee. As a Florida native, I had never done that. It was a fun day, and all these years later the memory of selecting which tree we wanted and taking turns cutting it sticks with me.
As an adult, I’m happy that I can carry on that tradition by going to a Florida Christmas tree farm. (Yes, Florida Christmas tree farms DO exist!) These farms provide a wide variety of beautiful, fragrant trees for customers to choose, either in the ground or precut.
According to the Florida Christmas Tree Association, two or three trees are planted for every tree harvested. Main tree varieties include Red Cedar, Arizona Cypress (my favorite is the Carolina Sapphire), Virginia Pine, Sand Pine and Leland Cypress. The FCTA also offers tips on how to keep your tree fresh.
