Want to try some blue food? Blue is the key ingredient of the day and also the international color for diabetes awareness. That’s why Chef Justin and the Florida Department of Health (DOH) Diabetes Prevention and Control Program will dish up some healthy blue bites during a World Diabetes Day event at the Historic State Capitol on November 14th.
Whether you have diabetes or not, enjoying “Fresh From Florida” fruits and vegetables can help play a key role in your overall health. If you have diabetes, work with your dietitian to find out how you can incorporate Florida’s bounty into your daily menu. Mix healthy eating with physical activity and you’ve got a recipe for success when it comes to some of the fundamental aspects of diabetes prevention and control.
On the 14th, come to the Historic State Capitol at 11:00 a.m. and taste Chef Justin’s Wild Gulf Shrimp with Blueberry Barbecue Sauce and low-fat, low-carb Blue Ribbon Blueberry Smoothie. These blue-themed treats will be a delicious reminder of the importance of diabetes prevention and control. They’ll also show you how easy (and tasty) it is to eat a well-balanced diet with loads of Florida fruits and vegetables.
Do you have any ideas for healthy blue-themed recipes using “Fresh From Florida” ingredients? Share them on this blog and visit http://ow.ly/f8jVA to find out more about the event. Hope to see you at the Capitol on Nov. 14th!
