Deadliest Catch Meets Florida Shrimpers

This year is a special one for the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach. Not only are they celebrating 51 years as one of the highest attended seafood festivals in the state, but they have an extra special guest in town, all the way from the Bering Sea! Capt. Edgar Hansen of the F/V Northwestern as featured on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” will be at the festival for a fan meet and greet on Saturday, May 3, at the Fresh From Florida booth on the waterfront. Along with signing autographs and taking photos, Edgar will be on the main stage at the festival speaking about the importance of domestic seafood and preserving the great fishing heritage of our state.
Edgar is the youngest Hansen brother on the F/V Northwestern, and has been featured on the show since the series started airing nine years ago. He began fishing at age 18 and came into his own on deck after only a few seasons. He is known as the “Deck Boss” (an informal title given to the senior man on the fishing deck.)
The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services would like to express our appreciation to Edgar for his involvement and support of the Florida seafood industry. His status as internationally known fishing captain will help raise public awareness of the important contributions Florida fisherman make to our state and nation.
