African American Health Initiative
More than 2.7 million African Americans over the age of 20 have diabetes, a condition closely related to obesity. One third of them do not even know it.
An unhealthy diet can also lead to many chronic diseases and conditions, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer. By simply making smarter, healthier choices, you can beat these risks. Including fresh produce in your diet is your first step toward a healthier lifestyle. When you eat smart, not only will you be healthier, but you will look and feel better.

First time to your blog. This is a good start to address the concerns, dismal health condition of black Americans. I am a black American male 53yrs old, maintained a preventive disease lifestyle all my life attributed to my mother first generation Jamaican and by participating in disciplinary sports: collegiate wrestling, marathon running, mtn. biking and adventure travel. My father side is from Georgia and that side of the family has enriched the medical industry paying for Western style diseases. Black America’s biggest health problem is immobility. People do not move enough, regardless of diet if you are sitting around ALL the time you are NOT HEALTHY. Likewise common sense is missing all the fad diets, foods, smoothies, yoga… is not going to do much good unless one changes their lifestyle and mindset. Having been the joke of my extended family, some now see the light to living with basics: exercise daily, eat fresh foods moderately, don’t buy or eat foods that are advertised in coupons they are always junk, relax daily taking a stroll, meditate, converse with friends, drink plenty of clean water, laugh more than complain. And most importantly stimulate the mind more than entertain the mind, that is turn off the TV and radio and READ or WRITE. Cheers,
